1st Half Marathonin the city of Fatima
Fátima is a small Portuguese town located 130 km north of Lisbon and 198 km south of Porto. About 40km from the Atlantic Ocean. This small village suddenly became famous in 1917, when three young shepherds claimed that the Virgin Mary had appeared to them.
On March 30, 2025, the city of Fatima will have the pleasure of hosting the first edition of the half marathon over a distance of 21.0975 kilometers. This event is intended to be a very high-level sporting gathering taking place in a mythical place full of emotion.!

The most famous apparition of Our Lady took place on October 13, 1917, when Mary appeared. Many people saw the sun dancing, spin and descend on them, drying their clothes soaked by rain and earth. Why a Muslim name in a Catholic city?
According to legend, a Moorish princess named Fatima was captured during the Reconquest. She married her captor, the Count of Ourem, who gave his lands his name. We do not know why the Virgin Mary appeared in a city with a Muslim name. Perhaps she wanted to convey a message that Catholics and Muslims should live in peace and harmony. We respect her choice and preserve the name of the city.
